Shark Attack Hurghada

Deadly Shark Attack Prompts Swimming Ban in Egyptian Red Sea Resort

Unprovoked Attacks Raise Concerns

The Egyptian authorities have prohibited swimming near a beach in Hurghada, an Egyptian Red Sea resort, following a deadly shark attack that claimed the life of a tourist. This incident marks the third fatal shark attack in the area within the past year, igniting concerns among tourists and locals alike.

The Recent Attacks

In 2022, two unprovoked fatal attacks occurred in Hurghada, resulting in the deaths of an Austrian and a Romanian tourist. The latest attack, which occurred on July 1, 2023, involved a Russian man who was swimming near the Red Sea town of Hurghada. The shark responsible for this attack has since been apprehended and is currently undergoing examination by marine experts.

The Egyptian authorities have responded swiftly to these incidents, closing several beaches along the country's Red Sea coast. This measure is intended to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of tourists and local residents. The authorities are also urging tourists to exercise caution and heed safety recommendations when swimming in the area.
