Breaking Wikileaks Founder Freed After Guilty Plea

Julian Assange Pleads Guilty to Espionage Charge, Released from Prison

BREAKING: WikiLeaks Founder Freed After Guilty Plea

12-Year Legal Battle Ends with Deal

London, UK - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been released from prison in the United Kingdom and is expected to travel home to Australia after pleading guilty to violating US Espionage law on Wednesday.

The deal, which will end Assange's 12-year legal battle, allows him to go free after serving time in prison. Assange was arrested in 2010 after WikiLeaks published thousands of classified US documents that exposed government secrets and alleged war crimes.

In a statement, Assange said he agreed to the plea deal to "avoid further persecution" and to "return to his family in Australia." He also called the Espionage Act "an unjust and overbroad law that criminalizes whistleblowing."
